Chpt. 5- In chapter 5 Anne-Marie and her friend Ellen are in Anne-Maries bedroom talking
and getting ready for bed. Ellen asks Anne-Marie how Anne-Maries sister, Lise died. Anne-Marie said that she didn't know
exactly how she died but she knew she died in an accident. After Anne-Marie and Ellen stopped talking and Ellen had fallen asleep
there was a pounding at the door, Anne- Marie sat up and turned on the lights and it was blinding because they usually use candles instead of electricity in the house. Her mom and dad got the door and two older soldiers barged into the house. They asked Anne-Maries parents if they were friends of the Rosans and they said yes. The soldiers said that the Rosans aren't at home and they asked were wondering if they knew
where they have gone to. They answered no. The soldiers said they were going to look around the house so they did and the parents let them. They were throwing tings around and making a mess of the house. Anne-Marie was surprised that her little sister, Kristi didn't wake up at all.
When the soldiers got to the two girls room the two were sitting up and completely frightened. Quickly, Anne-Marie told Ellen to take her necklace off. Ellen couldn't so Anne-Marie grab it and tore it off. The soldier yelled andtold them to get over to where he was and so Anne-Marie put the necklace in her hand and closed her fingers around really tight. The soldier grabbed Ellens hair and said why does she have dark hair and the rest of you have blonde? So their dad came in said that is our daughter Lise. The soldier wanted proof so their dad went to a photo album and tore out a few pictures with each daughter on it and their names bellow. Lise had dark hair when she was a baby so their dad showed him that picture. The soldier tore it up and stormed out of the room. Their dad left the room too and shut the dor behind him.
The two girls were relieved and Anne-Marie opened the hand with the necklace in it and there was an imprint of the star of David.

Chpt.6- In chapter 6 Mr. Johansan, Anne-Maries father, called their Uncle Henrick and said that they should not go to school and
that they were going on a vacation. Uncle Henrick answered the phone and they started to talk about what would be going on. Their dad
said in code Anne Marie thought, he said I will bring a box of cigarettes. She knew that wasn't true because there wasn't cigarettes around very often. It was code for telling her Uncle Henrick that Ellen was coming. In chapter 7 they are also on their way to their Uncle Henricks on a train. On the train a soldier asks them where they are going, and they reply that they are going to Gilleje, where their Uncle Henrick lives. The soldier also asks Ellen if they are going to celebrate the New Year. He asks Ellen because he wants he to spill that she is Jewish. Kristi speaks up and her mom is afraid that she might spill something but instead she pointed at her feet and said, " I'm going to see my Uncle Henrick and I'm wearing my brand-new shiny black shoes!" The soldier laughed and moved on.

The kitten sat by the rocks and pounced on imagined mice. They heard Anne-Marie's mom calling and put their shoes back on. The kitten rose amediatly after the two girls were on their way back to the house. Their mom asked them if they met anyone and they said they only met the kitten. Ellen picked the kitten up and it rested in her arms purring when she started to rub his ears. She kissed the kitten on top of his head and let him leap out of her arms. Anne-Marie's mom told the to come in side to get some dinner and that Uncle Henrick would be jome soon. Her mom found enough apples to make applesauce and that even though there was no sugar the apples were sweet without it. They all dressed for bed and Ellen asked Anne-Marie where her necklace of the Star of David was. Anne-Marie said it was in a very safe spot where no one would find it. Ellen said it was given to her by her father when she was little. Ellen wished she knew where her parents were. They coukd here Mama and Uncle Henrick talking and laughing and catching up after they have not seen each other in a long time. They were very close and Mama would always tease Uncle Henrick on how he shoukd have a wife and why he didn't. Uncle Henrick would tease back saying why he doesn't need a wife when he has a sister. Anne-Marie sat there thinking about the old times filled with fun and laughter and now there was barely any laughter and fun at all.

Chpt.8- In chapter 8 Anne-Marie woke up earlier than Ellen and tiptoed down-stairs to get some breakfast.
Her mother greeted her and told her there was oatmeal and cream. Anne-Marie was excited about the cream because she hadn't had cream in a long time. Ellen then came down and Anne-Maries mother put another bowl of oatmeal on the table and Anne-Marie told her there was cream. Anne-Marie noticed that Kristi was trying to give the kitten water and said that they like milk. Kristi said she was trying to teach him new habits, and that she named him Thor, the God of Thunder. But Anne-Marie said he would be scared of a thunderstorm even with a mother to comfort him. Uncle Henrick came home from getting milk from Blossom his cow and said that the house was nice and clean. Then they anounced that there would be a funeral for Anne-Marie's great Aunt Berte. Anne-Marie never heard of a Great Aunt Berte and she knew all the relatives of the family but not this one. There was no Great Aunt Birte, she didn't excist.

You are writing very detailed synopses. Just write about the main things that happen in the chapters, Shelley.

Chpt.9- in chapter 9 Anne-Marie goes to her Uncle Henrick when he is milking his cow, Blossom, and yells at him for lying to her about Great Aunt Birte. He tells her its to keep her brave and to not be afraid of what could happen. Her mom and Uncle Henrick were lying to Ellen, herself and her little sister Kristi a lie to keep them safe. That meant that Anne-Marie would heve to lie to her best friend Ellen. Anne-Marie and Uncle Henrick wen back to the house and people started to come to the funeral.

Chpt.10- In chapter 10 everyone arrived at the funeral including Ellen's parents and they were about to begin when there was a pounding at the door and they heard a car running. One soldier stormed into the house and wondered what everyone was doing, and they answered that it was a funeral. The soldier said that they should have the tradition of opening the casket and thn starting the funeral, Anne-Marie's mom said that they could do that but she died of a disease called Typhus. The soldier thought her mom was crazy to open the casket so he slapped her on the face and left. Anne-Marie yelled her mother's name and went over to her but her mother shook her head and said they could still be around.

Chpt.10- In chapter 10 the casket was opened but there was no-one in it but there was blankets and sweaters. A man named Peter started to hand them out and said that it was going to be very cold. Peter couldn't find anything for the baby but Anne-Marie's mom went to go find something because the baby needed to be warm. She came back with Kristi's old sweater and even though it was going to be too
big it would keep the baby warm. Peter took the blankets and handed them out for warmth later in the night. Peter announced that he would be the one to lead the group. They were to come back straight to the house after they got the Rosens safely to Henrick. Uncle Henrick would take them on his boat across to Sweden.

Chpt.11- In chapter 11 They are on there way out the door and Mama says to follow her,be careful for not triping on the root sin the ground, and to be very quiet. They didn't have any light so it was very cold, and dark. Kristi was in the house with the kitten in her arms in bed. The night was very quiet no birds called, Blossom didn't let out a moo, all they could here was the waves from the ocean. Stars dotted the skybut the moon wasn't in sight. The Rosans turned around and gave everyone a hug good-bye, she told Anne-Marie she would come back some day, then she promised it. Anne-Marie knew she would. Then they were gone and Anne-Marie was alone, she walked into the house and suddenly she was crying then she closed the door against the night. The room was empty and the casket was now closed and there was no sign of any people in the house. Anne-Marie tracd the path in her mind, she knew it well but not as well as her mom. She knew the twists and turns, the roots that were in clumps and the thick bushes that often followed in early summer. She sat in the the darkness remembering the path in her mind. She fell asleep and when she woke up she remembered that Mama and Uncle Henrick had left to take Ellen and her family to safety. She went upstairs to see if her mom had come home and didn't want to wake her up. She quietly went into Kristi's room, the one she had shared with her mom, and noticed the bed had only had Kristi in it with the kitten beside her. The kitten came over to Anne-Marie as soon as Anne-Marie was in sight. Anne-Marie looked out the window to see if she was hurrying home but all she saw was a dark clump on the earth floor. It started to move around and then she reconized that it was Mama. She quickly but quietly ran down the stairs and out the door. It was Mama alright and she was pale in the face and hurt. She said she tripped and went sprawling across the earth's ground.
You have included lots of details that were incidental and not directly affecting the action of the story. They could have been eliminated in your synopsis.
